How To Answer Azan According To Ahadith
Do you want to learn how to answer azan? You’ve come to the right place. Whether you’re a complete beginner – learning for the first time – or just need a refresher.
Knowing how to answer azan is sunnah.
Before I go through how to answer azan, let’s look at some ahadith about it.
How To Answer Azan According To Ahadith

It’s sunnah to listen to the azan attentively and repeat what the Mu’adh-dhin says.
Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri:
Sahih al-Bukhari
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “Whenever you hear the Adhan, say what the Mu’adh-dhin is saying.”
The phrases, “hayya ‘ala s-salah” (hasten to the prayer) and “hayya ‘ala l-falah” (hasten to the salvation), aren’t repeated after the Mu’adh-dhin. Instead, the phrase, “la hawla wa la quwata illa billah” (there is no strength or power except from God), is said.
Narrated `Isa bin Talha:
Sahih al-Bukhari
that he had heard Muawiya repeating the words of Adhan up to “Wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulul-lah (and I testify that Muhammad is Allah’s Messenger [ﷺ]).”
Narrated Yahya as above (586) and added:
Sahih al-Bukhari
“Some of my companions told me that Hisham had said, “When the Mu’adh-dhin said, “Haiyi `alassala (come for the prayer).” Muawiya said, “La hawla wala quwata illa billah (There is neither might nor any power except with Allah)” and added, “We heard your Prophet saying the same.”
