Dua Before Eating Food And Dua After Food

Prior to eating, Muslims should make dua before eating food.

The point of making dua before eating food is to remember Allah, who is Ar-Razzaq (the One who creates your rizq, or sustenance). We can also make dua to Allah to bless us in our food and give us more of it.

Making dua before eating food is a way of showing gratitude to Allah and keeping connected to Him.

Here’s a list of duas you can make before eating food, while eating and after eating.

Dua before eating food

If you’re drinking milk, you can say the following dua.

.اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَزِدْنَا مِنْهُ

Allahumma barik lana fihi wa zidna minhu.

O Allah! bless us in it and give us more of it.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas:
I was in the house of Maymunah. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) accompanied by Khalid ibn al-Walid entered. Two roasted long-tailed lizards (dabb) placed on the sticks were brought to him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) spat. Khalid said: I think that you abominate it, Messenger of Allah. He said: Yes. Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was brought milk, and he drank (it). The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then said: When one of you eats food, he should say: O Allah, bless us in it, and give us food (or nourishment) better than it. When he is given milk to drink he should say: O Allah! bless us in it and give us more of it, for no food or drink satisfies like milk. Sunan Abi Dawud

All praise is due to Allah who fed me this and granted it as provision to me, without any effort from me nor power.

Sahl bin Mu`adh bin Anas narrated from his father that:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Whoever eats food and then says: ‘All praise is due to Allah who fed me this and granted it as provision to me, without any effort from me nor power, (Al-ḥamdulillāh, alladhī aṭ`amanī hādha wa razaqanīhi min ghairi ḥawlin minnī, wa lā quwwatin)’ his past sins shall be forgiven.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi

Al-hamdulillahi alladhi at`amana wa saqana wa kafana wa awana, wakam mimman la kafiya lahu wa la mu’wiy.
