رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِي صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِي أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِنْ لِسَانِي يَفْقَهُوا قَوْلِي

Rabb-ishrah li sadri, wa yassir li ‘amri, wah-lul ‘uqdatam-min-li-sani, yaf-qahu qawli.

My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance], and ease for me my task, and untie the knot from my tongue that they may understand my speech.

[Moses] said, “My Lord, expand for me my breast [with assurance]
And ease for me my task
And untie the knot from my tongue
That they may understand my speech.

Qur’an 20:25-28

Why Did Prophet Musa (Alayhi Salam) Make Dua For Speaking Well?

At a time when Prophet Musa (alayhi salam) was wanted in Egypt for manslaughter, Allah ordered him to invite Firawn to practice tawheed. While Musa (alayhi salam) was on the run, his crime (which he’d repented for) was reported to Firawn. In response, Firawn ordered for him to be killed.

Words can’t describe the fear that Prophet Musa (alayhi salam) must’ve been feeling at that time. Imagine having to walk up to the most heavily guarded building in Egypt at the time? All the while trying to avoid being killed as a punishment for manslaughter.

Then We sent after them Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were unjust toward them. So see how was the end of the corrupters.
And Moses said, “O Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds
[Who is] obligated not to say about Allah except the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so send with me the Children of Israel.”

Qur’an 7:103-105

Prophet Musa made a dua for speaking well prior to meeting Firawn. What he wanted was to ask Allah to open up his chest – meaning help him stay calm and positive about the situation. Then he asked for ease in completing his task of getting the message across to Firawn.
