40 Ahadith About Signs Of The Last Hour

Here are 40 ahadith about signs of The Last Hour. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) has warned us about signs of The Last Hour that will occur before the Day of Judgement.

1.

The time period between Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and The Last Hour will be very short.

Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d As-Sa`idi:
(a companion of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)) Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ), holding out his middle and index fingers, said, “My advent and the Hour’s are like this (or like these),” namely, the period between his era and the Hour is like the distance between those two fingers, i.e., very short. Sahih al-Bukhari

2.

Time will be constricted.

Anas bin Malik narrated that the Allah’s Messenger (s.a.w) said:
“The hour shall not be established until time is constricted, and the year is like a month, a month is like the week, and the week is like the day, and the day is like the hour, and the hour is like the flare of the fire.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi

3.

Muslims will unite with idol worshippers. Imposters will claim to be prophets of Allah.

Thawban narrated that the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said:
“The Hour shall not be established until tribes of my Ummah unite with the idolaters, and until they worship idols. And indeed there shall be thirty imposters in my Ummah,each of them claiming that he is a Prophet. And I am the last of the Prophets, there is no Prophet after me.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi

People will sell their religion for goods of the world.

Anas bin Malik narrated that the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said:
“Before the Hour there shall be Fitan like a portion of the dark night. Morning will come upon a man as a believer, who will be a disbeliever in the evening, and evening will come upon a believer, who will be a disbeliever in the morning, people will sell their religion for goods of the world.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi

The Euphrates River will dry up and uncover a mountain of gold. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) has warned people not to take anything from it.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) said:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not come to pass before the River Euphrates dries up to unveil the mountain of gold, for which people will fight. Ninety-nine out of one hundred will die (in the fighting) and every man amongst them will say: ‘Perhaps I may be the only one to remain alive.”‘

Another narration is: “The time is near when the River Euphrates will dry up to unveil a treasure of gold. Whosoever may be alive at that time, should not take anything of it.” Riyad as-Salihin

‘Isa (peace be upon him) will descend as a just ruler.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established until the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you as a just ruler, he will break the cross, kill the pigs, and abolish the Jizya tax. Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it (as charitable gifts). Sahih al-Bukhari

7.

The evilest people will be living at the time of The Last Hour.

Ibn Mas`ud added:
I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) saying; (It will be) from among the most wicked people who will be living at the time when the Hour will be established.” Sahih al-Bukhari

8.

Constantinople will be conquered.

Anas bin Malik said:
“Constantinople will be conquered with the coming of the Hour.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi

9.

No one will mention Allah anymore.

It is narrated on the authority of Anas that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The Hour (Resurrection) will not occur as long as anyone says: ‘Allah, Allah.'” Sahih Muslim

10.

Authority will be given to those who don’t deserve it.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “When honesty is lost, then wait for the Hour.” It was asked, “How will honesty be lost, O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)?” He said, “When authority is given to those who do not deserve it, then wait for the Hour.” Sahih al-Bukhari

11.

People will wish for death.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established till a man passes by a grave of somebody and says, ‘Would that I were in his place.’ ” Sahih al-Bukhari

  • Rulers will be killed.
  • There will be fighting with swords.

It was narrated from Hudhaifah bin Yaman that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“The Hour will not begin until you kill your ruler and fight one another with swords, and your world is inherited by the worst of you.” Sunan Ibn Majah

Islam will continue to exist.

It has been narrated on the authority of Jabir b. Samura that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
This religion will continue to exist, and a group of people from the Muslims will continue to fight for its protection until the Hour is established. Sahih Muslim

The Dajjal will create the most trouble.

Abu Qatada reported:
We used to go to Imran b. Husain passing in front of Hisham b. ‘Amir. He, one day, said: You pass by me (in order) to go to some persons, but (amongst the living persons) none remained in the company of Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) more than I and none knows more ahadith than I. I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: There would be no creation (creating more trouble) than the Dajjal right from the creation of Adam to the Last Hour. Sahih Muslim

15.

Muslims will keep on following Allah’s laws strictly until The Last Hour.

Narrated Muawiya:
I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, “A group of my followers will keep on following Allah’s Laws strictly and they will not be harmed by those who will disbelieve them or stand against them till Allah’s Order (The Hour) will come while they will be in that state.” Sahih al-Bukhari

The Romans will form a majority of the population.

Mustaurid al-Qurashi reported:
I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: The Last Hour would come (when) the Romans would form a majority amongst people. ‘Amr said to him (Mustaurid Qurashi): See what you are saying? He said: I say what I heard from Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ). Thereupon he said: If you say that, it is a fact for they have four qualities. They have the patience to undergo a trial and immediately restore themselves to sanity after trouble and attack again after flight. They (have the quality) of being good to the destitute and the orphans, to the weak and, fifthly, the good quality in them is that they put resistance against the oppression of kings. Sahih Muslim

17.

Hajj will be abandoned.

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said “The people will continue performing the Hajj and `Umra to the Ka`ba even after the appearance of Gog and Magog.” Narrated Shu`ba extra: The Hour (Day of Judgment) will not be established till the Hajj (to the Ka`ba) is abandoned. Sahih al-Bukhari

18.

A fire from Hijaz will come and spread to Busra.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established till a fire will come out of the land of Hijaz, and it will throw light on the necks of the camels at Busra.” Sahih al-Bukhari

  • Religious knowledge will be taken away.
  • General ignorance of religion will appear.
  • Drinking of alcohol will be common.
  • Illegal sexual intercourse will prevail.
  • Men will decrease in number.

Narrated Anas:
I will narrate to you a narration which nobody will narrate to you after me. I heard that from the Prophet. I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, “The Hour will not be established” or said: “From among the portents of the Hour is that the religious knowledge will betaken away (by the death of religious Scholars) and general ignorance (of religion) will appear; and the drinking of alcoholic drinks will be very common, and (open) illegal sexual intercourse will prevail, and men will decrease in number while women will increase so much so that, for fifty women there will only be one man to look after them.” Sahih al-Bukhari

The Last Hour will occur on a Friday.

Abu Hurairah narrated that:
the Prophet said: “The best day that the sun has risen upon is Friday. On it Adam was created, on it he entered Paradise, and on it, he was expelled from it. And the Hour will not be established except on Friday.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi

21.

People will show off in building masajid (mosques).

It was narrated from Anas that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“One of the portents of the Hour will be that people will show off in building Masjids.” Sunan an-Nasa’i

22.

The earth will collapse.

It was narrated from ‘Abdullah that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Just before the Hour comes there will be transformations, the earth collapsing, and Qadhf. (i.e. the throwing of stones perhaps as a means of punishment – maybe it refers to landslides).” Sunan Ibn Majah

  • The slave woman will give birth to her mistress.
  • The “barefoot and naked” will become leaders.
  • Shepherds will compete in constructing buildings.

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came out one day to the people, and a man came to him and said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, when will the Hour be?’ He said: ‘The one who is asked about it does not know more than the one who is asking. But I will tell you of its portents. When the slave woman gives birth to her mistress, that is one of its portents. When the barefoot and naked become leaders of the people, that is one of its portents. When shepherds compete in constructing buildings, that is one of its portents. (The Hour) is one of five (things) which no one knows except Allah.’ Then the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) recited the words: “Verily, Allah, with Him (alone) is the knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain, and knows that which is in the wombs. (to the end of the Verse).”[31:34] Sunan Ibn Majah

24.

The habitations of Medina will extend to Ihab or Yahab.

Abu Huraira reported that Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said:
(The Last Hour would not come) until the habitations of Medina would extend to Ihab or Yahab. Zubair said: I said to Suhail how far these were from Medina. He said: So and so miles. Sahih Muslim

25.

The Last Hour will be sudden.

Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:
The Last Hour would come (so sudden) that a person would be milking the she- camel and the (milk) would not reach the brim of the vessel that the Last Hour would come, and the two persons would be engaged in buying and selling of the clothes and their bargain would not be struck before the Last Hour would come. And someone would be setting his tank in order and he would have hardly set it right when the Last Hour would come. Sahih Muslim

26.

There Will Be:

  • Land-slides
  • Smoke
  • The Dajjal
  • The Beast of the Earth
  • Gog and Magog
  • The rising of the sun from the west
  • A fire in ‘Adan
  • The descent of ‘Isa (peace be upon him)
  • A violent gale

Hudhaifa b. Usaid reported:
Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) was in an apartment and we were beneath that, that he peeped in and said to us: What are you discussing about? We said: (We are discussing about the Last) Hour. Thereupon he said: The Last Hour would not come until the ten signs appear: land-sliding in the east, and land-sliding in the west, and land-sliding in the peninsula of Arabia, the smoke, the Dajjal, the beast of the earth, Gog and Magog, the rising of the sun from the west and the fire which would emit from the lower part of ‘Adan. Shu’ba said that ‘Abd al-‘Aziz b. Rufai’ reported on the authority of Abu Tufail who reported on the authority of Abu Sariha a hadith like this that Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) did not make a mention of (the tenth sign) but he said that out of the ten one was the descent of Jesus, son of Mary (peace be upon him), and in another version it is the blowing of the violent gale which would drive the people to the ocean. Sahih Muslim

27.

Houses will be coloured.

Abu Hurayra reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The Final Hour will not come until people build houses which are like coloured garments.” Al-Adab Al-Mufrad

28.

Muslims will fight Jews.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. “O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.” Sahih al-Bukhari

29.

  • There will be fighting between people of the same religion.
  • Imposters will claim to be messengers of Allah.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established till there is a war between two groups among whom there will be a great number of casualties, though the claims (or religion) of both of them will be one and the same. And the Hour will not be established till there appear about thirty liars, all of whom will be claiming to be the messengers of Allah.” Sahih al-Bukhari

30.

The Last Hour will affect evil people the most.

Abdullah reported Allah’s Apostle (ﷺ) as saying:
The Last Hour would affect (most terribly) the wicked persons. Sahih Muslim

31.

Women of the tribe of Daus will worship Dhi-Al-Khalasa.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established till the buttocks of the women of the tribe of Daus move while going round Dhi-al-Khalasa.” Dhi-al-Khalasa was the idol of the Daus tribe which they used to worship in the Pre Islamic Period of ignorance. Sahih al-Bukhari

32.

People will compete with one another in the height of their buildings.

Signs of the last hour

Abu Hurayra reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, “The Final Hour will not come until people compete with one another in the height of their buildings.” Al-Adab Al-Mufrad

33.

There will be harj (killing).

Abu Musa narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
“Before the Hour comes there will be Harj.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah, what is Harj?” He said: “Killing.” Some of the Muslims said: “O Messenger of Allah, now we kill such and such a number of idolaters in one year.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “That will not be like killing the idolaters, rather you will kill one another, until a man will kill his neighbor and son of the cousin and a relative.” Some of the people said: “O Messenger of Allah, will we be in our right minds that day?” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “No, reason will be taken away from most of the people at that time, and there will be left the insignificant people who have no reason.” Sunan Ibn Majah

34.

There will be many liars.

Jabir b. Samura reported:
I heard Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: Before the Last Hour there would be many liars, and there is an addition in the hadith transmitted on the authority of Abu Ahwas of these words:” I said to him: Did you hear it from Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)? He said: Yes.” Sahih Muslim

35.

Muslims will copy Persians and Byzantines.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established till my followers copy the deeds of the previous nations and follow them very closely, span by span, and cubit by cubit (i.e., inch by inch).” It was said, “O Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ)! Do you mean by those (nations) the Persians and the Byzantines?” The Prophet said, “Who can it be other than they?” Sahih al-Bukhari

36.

The need for zakat (charity) will decrease.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The Hour (Day of Judgment) will not be established till your wealth increases so much so that one will be worried, for no one will accept his Zakat and the person to whom he will give it will reply, ‘I am not in need of it.’ ” Sahih al-Bukhari

37.

A man from the tribe of Qahtan will appear.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established till a man from Qahtan appears, driving the people with his stick.” Sahih al-Bukhari

38.

Predators will speak to people.

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:
“By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! The Hour will not be established until predators speak to people and until the tip of a man’s whip and the straps on his sandal speak to him, and his thigh informs him of what occurred with his family after him.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi

39.

The happiest of people in the world will be Luka’ bin Luka’.

Hudhaifah bin Al-Yaman narrated that the Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) said:
“The Hour will not be established until the happiest of people in the world is Luka’ bin Luka’.” Jami` at-Tirmidhi

40.

The Turks will be fought.

Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Turks; people with small eyes, red faces, and flat noses. Their faces will look like shields coated with leather. The Hour will not be established till you fight with people whose shoes are made of hair.” Sahih al-Bukhari
